Welcome to the Rural Municipality of Swift Current No.137 Fire Department Page where our dedicated volunteer team—supported by a strategic Fire agreement with the City of Swift Current Fire Department—works around the clock to protect our residents and property.

Recruitment

Looking for extra income, excitement, and a way to serve your community? If joining a team of like minds and motivated individuals piques your interest read more about becoming a Paid-On-Call Firefighter. Applicants will join a paramilitary team environment, learning on the job, receiving training and certification while receiving compensation for on call, emergency response and attending training.  If you have any questions reach out to the R.M. of Swift Current #137 office.

• Requirements:
  • • Applicants must be over 18 years of age.
    • Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Check
    • Drivers Abstract
    • Interested in serving the greater Swift Current area for fire protection, grass fires, vehicle extrication, and emergency response.
• Emergency Response
  • • A two-platoon system is used for one week-on and one week-off of on call responsibility.
    • Must live within 10 minutes of the RM Fire Hall
• Training
  • • November to April 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm every second Thursday.
    • April to November 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm every Thursday.
    • July and August -No scheduled Training
  • Physical fitness testing-Completed each spring and fall annually.
    • • Part One – 2 km run in under 12 minutes and 59 seconds.
      • Part Two – R.M. of Swift Current No.137 Circuit of fire service-based skills, while wearing firefighter protective clothing. Completion in under 12 minutes and 59 seconds

Insurance Coverage

Property owners are responsible for paying the cost of fighting fires on their property. Check with your insurance agent to determine if your fire insurance policy covers the cost of fighting fires. It is possible to obtain an endorsement with an additional premium to provide coverage to reimburse you for any costs incurred in fighting a fire. Grass and brush fires generate substantial fire fighting costs and are usually caused by carelessness.

Rates

$1,036.34 per hour
Maximum $2500.00 for ratepayers
Maximum $5000.00 for Commercial ratepayers

Controlled Burn

Any landowner planning to have a controlled burn on their property should contact the Municipal Office. They also need to advise the Prince Albert 911 Administration Center of their intent to have a controlled burn and indicate the date, time and location on which they are planning to do so. Failure to do so may result in a substantial fire bill if a well-meaning passerby calls in a fire report. Landowners are reminded that it is unwise to burn in very windy, dry weather and always provide extensive fire guarding before a controlled burn.
